英语作文 篇1

Certainly, there are times when silence pays rich dividends. In the Bible, Solomon said: “The one who guards his mouth preserves his life; the one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin”. Surely the kind of silence here advised, the control of one’s tongue, is “golden” indeed. Silence is certainly “golden” when compared to speaking evil. How wonderfully golden the silence would be if all whispering, backbiting, lying, slander and such like could be forever stopped. Meanwhile, “Silence is golden” also means that one is restrained, listening whole-heartedly firstly, and then carefully making her speech. Too many times we may be guilty of saying too much without taking into account the context.

There are other times, however, when silence is not “golden”. It may be just plain yellow or cowardly in such instance. To remain silent at times when one should speak up is to be guilty of cowardice and results in a failure to do one’s duty. It all depends upon the circumstances. Many times those who should speak out and warn of danger remain silent because they are afraid or fear that they might hurt someone’s feelings. Such silence is far from being golden. Moreover, such a person lends strength to the forces of evil, and by failing to oppose such can be counted with the enemies for all practical purposes.

All in all, in most cases, silence can drive you to a favourable position where you can either go forward and do perfect defense. On top of the position, only silver speech can make you win something.

英语作文 篇2

Dear hendmaster,

I am a senior student of our school. I’d like to say something about the canteen service in our school.

In general, the service is satisfactory. The hall is clean and tidy. The dishes look inviting and taste delicious as well. What’s more, the workers there treat us as their friends, which makes us feel very happy.

However, we feel the price of the meals is a little too high. Besides, we can only have a limited variety of dishes with little change every week. In addition, we often have to stand in line for a long time before we can get the meal. You could understand how precious time is to us students. Therefore, may I suggest something be done to solve the problems so that we can all enjoy our meals at school?

Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely yours,

  Li Hua

英语作文 篇3

MyTeacher

Inmymiddle school I had many good teachers, but Mr. Zhang was the one I partic ularly liked and respected. He was a middle-aged intellectual who lived a simple and hard working life but was always optimistic and spared no effort in teaching us.

He was a scholar of Chinese literature and history. We felt that he knew everything in this field. His knowledge and eloquence, as well as his klndness, made his lectures so attrative and touching that we were reluctant to hear the bell ringing to dismiss the class.

One lesson he gave us that I cannot forget concerned some quotations from a pupil of Confucius, who always felt at ease in spite of his life of abject poverty. In his lecture, Mr. Zhang revealed his true feelings in devoting himself to teaching all his life. This deeply moved us all.

I respect Mr. Zhang and should learn from his noble spirit and domybest to study hard for our great socialist country.

英语作文 篇4

Dear Anna,

How glad I am to hear from you and to know that you are getting on well with your Chinese study at Beijing University.

To learn a foreign language, one should not only study the language itself, but also study the everyday life of the native speakers of the language. You‘ve been in China for only half a year. I don‘t think you have known much about our life at home. Why not come to my place and spend the Spring Festival with my family?

My parents and I are looking forward to seeing you. We‘ll surely meet you at the station.

Best wishes!

  Yours,

  Li Hong

英语作文 篇5

Girl: Dear aunty, could you give me a share of tomato catsup?

阿姨,能给我一份番茄酱吗?

Chuck: OK, good boy. Here you are.

好的,好孩子,给你。

Girl: But I'm a girl.

可是我是女孩啊。

Chuck: While am I a female? Why did you call me aunty?

那我是女的吗?你为什么叫我阿姨啊?

Girl: Sorry, uncle picky, I didn't see very clearly.

对不起,你这个叔叔也太爱挑剔了,我刚才没看清楚。
